The Oxford Slager Jewish Student Centre
The Oxford Slager Jewish student centre was opened during Michaelmas 2006 in the heart of Oxford, on George Street, surrounded by Oxford’s college buildings.
The 2,100 sq ft centre is located just off Cornmarket st, one of the main streets in Oxford, next to the History Faculty building, and round the corner from the Oxford Castle.
The centre serves as a venue for Jewish students, including a well-used prayer hall, a space for Shabbat and holiday dinners for over 100 students, as well as other events.
This important provision for Jewish student was made possible with the support of Oxford alumnus David Slager (Exeter college) and the Slager family foundation. It is called after the benefactor's grandfather, David Slager, who perished in Auschwitz.

The Oxford Chabad Society was established in 2001 with the enthusiastic support of the Jewish students and faculty at the University. It followed many years of the students using every large venue in Oxford, including college auditoriums for Passover Seder nights, the Town Hall for a Shabbat dinner, and college lecture rooms for lectures and discussions every term.
With the new centre, there will be sufficient space to host the high profile speakers in comfortable facilities with a welcoming ambiance without having to search elsewhere. The Centre has already hosted many personalities, including talks by former Minister of Justice & Attorney General of Canada, Prof. Irwin Cotler and famed historian Prof. Deborah Libstadt.
In addition to a venue for lectures and large Shabbat dinners at this central location, the centre also houses a comfortable lounge with an extensive Judaica library established with the help of the Samson family.
This allows Jewish students to pray and study in a comfortable and welcoming setting, whilst doing their university course.
This centre compliments the local community spaces in Oxford, including the Oxford Jewish Congregaion and the E. Alec and Eileen Colman Centre and George and Pamela Rohr House on the Cowley Road.
