Over 2,000 Celebrate Hanukkah with Chabad on Campus UK, the fastest growing Jewish organisation on campus in Britain today.

This year Chabad on Campus UK held a record number of public Menorah lightings including: UCL (1st ever), Nottingham (1st ever), Imperial College, Livepool, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Cambridge, Sussex and Bristol Universities. These were attended by high profile people such as Professor Lord Winston, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nottingham University Saul Tender, Blackpool FC player Dekel Keinan and with Menorahs up to 9ft high.

A record was reached at Oxford where 250 students and faculty turned out for a giant Menorah lighting outside Balliol College with three heads of colleges.

“Even my non Jewish friends were wishing me Happy Hanukkah” said Debbie an undergraduate student at Leeds University “I guess it was because there was a Menorah just outside the Union for the whole Hanukkah”.

“The Union was very helpful and supportive” reported Rabbi Michoel Danow, director of Chabad on Campus at Leeds University, “We met more Jewish students every time we stood next to the Menorah”.

“People are happy to support the Menorahs message of freedom for all people and we are happy to promote it” the Imperial College student newspaper FELIX quotes Rabbi Mendy Loewenthal, director of Chabad of South Kensington as saying. The award-winning newspaper had written a piece covering the Menorah lighting with Professor Lord Robert Winston at Imperials South Kensington campus.

“We are amazed at how many people came out in sub zero temperature and snow for the Menorah lighting” said Rabbi Pinny Weinman, director of the Chabad House servicing Edinburghs students and staff.

This Hanukkah Chabad on Campus UK delivered a vast array of programming including: close to 1000 Menorahs given out; the public giant Menorah Lightings from London to Edinburgh; Hanukkah themed Friday night Shabbats; 30 students celebrating Hanukkah at a pub in the East End of London; 700 doughnuts and Dreidels given out in Sussex; a Hanukkah get together at Westfield Shopping centre for the south London campuses; a Mitzvah Tank at Leeds campus; a Diversity concert including three African and one Jewish singer at Bloomsbury Chabad in central London and a Hanukkah bowling evening in Nottingham - Chabad on Campus UK celebrated Hanukkah with well over 2000 students and faculty across the UK campuses.
