Oxford Chabad inaugurates NEW Torah scroll

Oxford University Chabad Society recently dedicated a brand new Torah scroll that was written in Israel and donated by an anonymous donor to Chabad of Oxford. The Torah scroll was completed by Rabbi Eli Brackman, director of the OU Chabad Society, who also trained as a scribe, together with the participation of about 50 students and community members.

 

Many students symbolically purchased letters in the Torah for family members, and assisted with the writing of the final letters of the scroll.

 

In a display of Jewish pride, the Torah was paraded under a Chupah around the heart of the city of Oxford accompanied by the singing of traditional songs, followed by an hour of dancing and festivities at the Slager Chabad Centre.

Oxford University Chabad Society hosts retirement Shabbat dinner for Oxford's greatest Jewish philosopher

 

Oxford University Chabad Society hosted a special retirement Shabbat dinner for leading Marxist Oxford Jewish philosopher, Cichele Professor of Social & Political Theory, Professor Gerald (Jerry) Cohen.

 

Professor Cohen is successor and former student of Sir Isaiah Berlin and one of the most famous and entertaining philosophers in Oxford. The Shabbat dinner was sponsored by the Whisky Shop in Oxford and attended by about 150 philosophers, students and community.
