Chutzpah

Chutzpah!

 

A definition of Chutzpah is when you might be to blame for something and then you condemn the outcome, which you yourself might have been able to prevent. This idea of Chutzpah is illustrated in the anecdote, the assassin of John F. Kennedy claimed that, surely, were Kennedy alive he would have released him from jail and therefore he should be released.

 

As Prof. Allan Dershowitz, I was also shocked when I read the line-up for the Israel debate at the Oxford Union this coming week. I have heard of Peter Tatchel from his own colleagues and he is indeed a known critic of Israel and pro-Palestinian. So how he could appear on the pro-Israel side of the debate baffles me.

Oxford University Chabad Society closes traditional gap between faculty and students at Oxford.

Oxford University Chabad Society hosted its first Faculty Shabbat dinner at the Oxford Chabad David Slager Centre for over 70 faculty and students. The guest speaker was leading geneticist and former Principal of Hertford College, Sir Walter Bodmer, who spoke on the subject of Jewish Genes and the genetic makeup of the people of the British Isles. The dinner was attended by Heads of Colleges, professors, lecturers and students.

Despite the traditional gap between faculty and students in Oxford, the event gave the opportunity for students to mingle with Heads of Colleges and faculty, socialising until early hours of the morning.
